New Little Library at McKelvey Elementary

The Team Impact group at Overhead Door Company of St. Louis recently installed a custom little library, complete with a welcoming garage door, near McKelvey Elementary school in Maryland Heights, MO.

    Starting the Little Library

During a Team Impact meeting, the group was discussing small ways to effect big change in their local community. Angela Gilbert, Customer Service Representative, shared that she had seen a little library implemented elsewhere. She suggested it as an option to become engaged with the community and the schools. Everyone loved the idea. Plus, the team thought it would be a good opportunity to share the spirit of Overhead Door Company of St. Louis and gain some awareness.

The group contacted McKelvey Elementary, which is a few miles from St. Louis office. The school granted permission for the project. Everyone is encouraged to borrow a book and return it when they are finished reading it. Employees kicked off the library by donating books. The general public is encouraged to take a book to read or leave a book to help grow the library.

    Little Library Is Open

Now, the little library sits on a parking lot corner near the pick-up and drop-off area for students. The location is ideal because of its convenient location. Students are commonly through the area to attend school, summer camps and other activities. Click here to see photos on our Facebook page.

Kevin Hanak, Materials Manager, constructed and installed the little library. “This was an incredibly rewarding experience. It makes me proud to be a part of a team willing to go the extra mile for good causes,” said Hanak.

The little library kicked off right in time for summer reading. All the books donated by DH Pace team members has an Overhead Door Company of St. Louis sticker on the back. The team routinely checks on the library and adds flyers for interested homeowners.

Thank you to everyone that contributed to this donation and made this community project a reality! If you’re interested in going by the little library, it is located at 1751 McKelvey Rd, Maryland Heights, MO 63043.

  • Because Hunger is Scary, with the St. Louis Area Food Bank

    Because Hunger is Scary

Overhead Door Company of St. Louis partnered with the St. Louis Area Foodbank for a food drive during October and had some AWESOME results.

The Company’s volunteerism group, called Team Impact, worked to host an internal canned food drive, collected cash donations, and even organized a collection point outside a local grocery store on a Sunday for a few hours!

They used the theme “Because hunger is scary” and tied it in with the Halloween holiday. Their work was rewarded with great generosity. Here are the details:

The food drive collected 560 pounds of food! This provides 457 meals to folks in the area who need help.

They ALSO collected nearly $650 in cash donations! The St. Louis Area Foodbank estimates that for every $1 donated, they can provide FOUR meals. That means the Company’s donation supports almost 2600 meals!

All told, the contributions reach over 3,000 meals that go to help the community, something of which to be very proud.
